Magnetometer Modular System
Magnetometer modular systems allow operators to configure sensor arrays, data acquisition units, GPS receivers, and carrying platforms as interchangeable components — building a survey instrument matched to specific application requirements without purchasing a separate fixed-configuration system for each survey type. This modularity reduces procurement cost and extends platform versatility across UXO clearance, archaeological survey, mineral exploration, and pipeline location from a single equipment investment.
The Geodevice MaxiMag console connects up to 30 digital Overhauser sensors via a wired CAN interface — enabling two-sensor to multi-sensor gradiometer configurations at selectable baseline separations without additional electronics. Operators switch between single-sensor total field survey, vertical gradiometer, and horizontal gradiometer array configurations by changing sensor mounting brackets rather than replacing the entire instrument. Furthermore, compatible mounting options include hand-carry brackets, backpack harness frames, multi-sensor archaeological survey carts, and shallow-water sleds — covering ground walking, vehicle-towed, and waterway survey deployments from one console unit.
The Geometrics G-864 accepts up to four cesium magnetometer sensors simultaneously at a maximum sample rate of 10Hz and noise floor below 0.004 nT/√Hz — enabling four-channel parallel gradiometer arrays that survey up to four times the area per survey line compared to single-sensor walking configurations. The G-864 uses a modified Android tablet as the data console, with navigational display, preloaded survey line steering, and large-capacity data storage across single and multiple projects. Additionally, Bartington’s modular magnetometer architecture allows selection of different fluxgate sensor types, data acquisition interfaces, and communication outputs — covering RS-232, USB, and analog output options from a single sensor housing with interchangeable electronics modules.
GPS integration options across modular systems include internal multi-band GNSS receivers with PPK post-processing capability for centimeter-level position accuracy, and external serial GPS inputs for compatibility with third-party survey navigation software. Base station operation mode on the MaxiMag console allows the same unit to serve as a roving survey instrument or a fixed reference station during the same field campaign.
