GPS Heading Sensors
GPS Heading Sensors utilize three-axis solid-state compass technology combined with three-axis accelerometers and three-axis rate gyroscopes to maintain 2° heading accuracy under dynamic conditions including 30° pitch and roll angles. Static heading accuracy reaches 1° RMS when level, with 0.1° display resolution and 1-second settling time. Rate-of-turn measurement spans 0° to 70° per second with 1° per second accuracy. Combined GPS variants track 14 satellite channels simultaneously, achieving 3-meter position accuracy with WAAS/EGNOS augmentation. Heading data outputs at 10 Hz through NMEA 0183 or adjustable up to 20 Hz via NMEA 2000 protocols.
IPX6 waterproof housing protects internal electronics from saltwater exposure across operating temperatures from -15°C to 55°C. Circular housing design mounts on angled bulkheads without alignment complications. Power consumption remains below 120mA at 9-40 VDC supply voltage. Temperature-compensated gyroscopes and accelerometers maintain accuracy specifications across entire operating temperature ranges. GPS-only variants eliminate below-deck compass installations through single above-deck antenna mounting.
Naval destroyer escorts require GPS Heading Sensors for weapon system targeting calculations demanding sub-2° heading accuracy during evasive maneuvers at high speeds. Military amphibious craft depend on precise heading information for beach landing approaches where magnetic deviation near metal hulls renders traditional compasses unreliable. Survey vessels employ rate-of-turn data for multibeam sonar stabilization during hydrographic mapping missions.
Tactical Supply Pakistan provides complete sensor installations with NMEA network integration, calibration services, and mounting hardware suited to fiberglass, aluminum, or steel hull construction for defense and commercial maritime applications.
Why do solid-state heading sensors outperform traditional fluxgate compasses in dynamic marine conditions?
Solid-state sensors integrate rate gyroscopes and accelerometers with three-axis magnetometers, enabling dynamic motion correction algorithms that maintain 2° accuracy during 30° pitch and roll, whereas fluxgate compasses lose accuracy under vessel movement and require complex gimbaled mounting systems.
