Magnetometers

Magnetometers measure the strength, direction, and gradient of magnetic fields — serving defense, geophysical survey, navigation, archaeological investigation, UXO clearance, and scientific research applications across a wide range of sensor technologies and performance tiers. These instruments detect the magnetic field distortions caused by buried metallic objects, geological formations, and ferromagnetic platform components — converting field measurements into actionable data for operators across ground, airborne, and marine survey platforms.

Sensor technology determines measurement capability and application suitability. Fluxgate magnetometers measure vector field components in one, two, or three axes — used in UAV heading reference systems, weapon stabilization platforms, and ground vehicle navigation modules at heading accuracies of 0.1 to 0.3 degrees. Proton precession magnetometers measure absolute total field values without drift — the standard base station reference instrument in geophysical surveys. Furthermore, Overhauser magnetometers deliver continuous total field measurement at 0.01 nT sensitivity and sample rates up to 5Hz — outperforming proton precession on mobile survey platforms where measurement gaps are unacceptable.

Deployment configurations span hand-carried backpack survey systems, vehicle-towed multi-sensor arrays, fixed-wing and rotary-wing airborne platforms, UAV-mounted lightweight survey payloads, marine towed sensor birds, and seabed autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) installations. Processing software converts raw field measurements into anomaly maps, gradient datasets, and target depth estimates for operational decision-making.
