Waterjet Disrupter
Waterjet disrupters are specialized tools used by explosive ordnance disposal technicians to neutralize suspected improvised explosive devices and unexploded ordnance by firing a high-velocity water jet at the target device. The water jet disrupts the device’s internal components including initiators, firing circuits, and detonator assemblies before the device can function. This render-safe method avoids the need for technicians to manually handle or disassemble the device during the neutralization procedure.
The disrupter fires a column of water from a barrel assembly at velocities between 300 and 900 meters per second depending on the propellant charge weight and barrel length. Water column mass runs between 50 and 500 grams depending on the disrupter model and selected charge configuration. The high-velocity water jet penetrates device casings, disrupts electronic firing circuits, and separates initiators from main charge explosives without triggering detonation in most device configurations. Additionally, propellant charges use standard pyrotechnic initiator systems compatible with remote firing units, allowing EOD technicians to fire the disrupter from a safe standoff distance behind cover without direct line of sight to the target device during the firing event.
Disrupter body construction uses aluminum alloy or steel depending on the service pressure rating of the specific model. Overall length runs between 400mm and 800mm. Weight runs between 2 and 8 kilograms depending on barrel length and material. The lightweight construction allows robot arm mounting on remote EOD vehicle platforms, keeping technicians at safe distances during device approach and neutralization. Furthermore, reusable barrel designs allow multiple shots from the same disrupter body with propellant charge and water column replacement between shots. Single-shot disposable variants suit situations where recovery of the disrupter after firing is impractical at the incident site.
Mounting accessories include tripod stands, magnetic mounts, and EOD robot arm attachment brackets. These position the disrupter at the correct standoff distance and aim angle relative to the target device before remote firing. Moreover, waterjet disrupter kits include a selection of propellant charge weights, water column inserts, aim adjustment tools, and remote firing cable assemblies in a single carry case for rapid deployment at incident sites.
Tactical Supply Pakistan supplies waterjet disrupters to Pakistan Army EOD formations, police bomb disposal units, and civil defense explosive hazard response teams requiring reliable standoff device neutralization capability across improvised explosive device and unexploded ordnance response operations throughout Pakistan.
