Riot Helmets

A riot helmet protects the head and face from thrown objects, blunt strikes, and debris during crowd control operations. The outer shell is usually injection-molded polycarbonate or ABS plastic, rated to absorb impact without cracking under repeated strikes. A clear polycarbonate face shield attaches at the front, covering the eyes and upper face while allowing full visibility, and most shields resist scratching and fogging during extended wear. Shell weight typically falls between 900 grams and 1.5 kilograms, kept low so the helmet doesn’t strain the neck during long deployments.

Internal padding uses foam liners that adjust to different head sizes, with a chin strap securing the helmet during running or physical contact with a crowd. Some models add a neck flap at the back, made of the same padded material as the rest of a riot suit, protecting against strikes from behind or above. Ventilation holes sit along the sides or top, reducing heat buildup during hours-long standing duty in direct sun, a real factor given how long protest deployments can run in Pakistan’s cities.

Face shields flip up when not needed, letting officers communicate clearly or drink water without removing the whole helmet. Mounting points on the sides or top accept an attachable visor extension or, on some models, a small camera for recording incidents during a deployment.

Police riot units wear these helmets during protests, demonstrations, and public order operations where thrown bricks or bottles are a real risk. Paramilitary forces use them for the same reason during political rallies or sensitive security events. Prison staff also use riot helmets during cell extractions or managing disturbances in high-risk wards.
