RAEA Ultrafast Amplifier
RAEA ultrafast amplifiers are high-speed signal amplification modules for radiation detection instrumentation and nuclear pulse processing systems. These amplifiers process raw charge pulses from radiation detector elements. Sources include silicon semiconductor detectors, scintillation photomultiplier outputs, and ionization chamber signals. The amplifier shapes these pulses into standardized forms suitable for analog-to-digital conversion and multichannel analysis.
The input stage uses low-noise architecture with input-referred noise voltage below 1 nV per root hertz at 1 MHz. This preserves signal-to-noise ratio of weak detector pulses arriving at sub-millivolt amplitude. Bandwidth on ultrafast variants runs between 100 MHz and 1 GHz depending on the model. Rise time on the fastest configurations falls below 1 nanosecond for sub-nanosecond coincidence timing applications. Additionally, gain settings cover fixed values between 10 and 1000 in discrete steps. Continuous adjustment variants accommodate signal levels from both low-output silicon strip detectors and higher-output scintillation systems within a single platform.
Pulse shaping networks apply semi-Gaussian or trapezoidal filter functions to the amplified output. These convert raw exponential detector pulses into shaped forms with peaking times between 50 nanoseconds and 10 microseconds. Shorter peaking times support high count rate applications. Furthermore, pole-zero cancellation circuits eliminate undershoot artifacts that raw differentiated pulses produce. Without this correction, baseline shift at high count rates degrades energy resolution in spectroscopy applications significantly.
Power supply requirements run on plus and minus 12V or plus and minus 15V dual-rail supplies. Current consumption stays below 200 milliamps per rail under normal operating conditions. Moreover, NIM module format packaging integrates directly into standard nuclear instrumentation module bin assemblies. This suits radiation physics laboratory and detector test bench setups where NIM bin infrastructure is already in place.
