Human Presence Detector

A Human Presence Detector is a compact sensing device that identifies and confirms a human being within a defined detection zone by measuring physiological signatures — body heat, movement, breathing rate, or electromagnetic reflection — that distinguish a live person from background objects and environmental noise. Security teams, facility managers, access control triggers, and surveillance activation without requiring continuous human monitoring of every protected zone.

Passive infrared (PIR) detectors are the most common format. They sense the thermal radiation difference between a moving human body at approximately 37°C and the surrounding background temperature. Detection range on standard PIR units reaches 10 to 20 meters with a coverage angle of 90 to 120 degrees. 

Microwave and millimeter-wave radar detectors operate at 5.8GHz, 24GHz, or 60GHz frequencies. They detect micro-movements including breathing and heartbeat at ranges of 3 to 30 meters through walls, partitions, and vehicle bodywork. Furthermore, radar detectors function in complete darkness and extreme temperatures. Consequently, they suit covert room monitoring, vehicle search operations, and perimeter security at border installations across Pakistan.

Ultra-wideband (UWB) radar variants achieve sub-centimeter resolution. They detect stationary humans through breathing motion at ranges up to 10 meters through solid concrete walls. Additionally, some detectors combine PIR and microwave technologies into a dual-technology unit, requiring both sensors to trigger simultaneously before generating an alarm. This approach significantly reduces false alarm rates in high-traffic environments.

Output options include dry contact relay, 4 to 20mA analog, RS-485, and wireless IoT protocols for integration with access control panels, alarm systems, and building management platforms.
