Earthing Mat or Grounding Mat
An Earthing Mat or Grounding Mat is a conductive surface pad connected to an electrical earth or ground reference point, used either as a personal wellness device that recreates direct skin-to-earth electrical contact indoors, or as a functional anti-static and electrostatic discharge (ESD) control surface in electronics workspaces, equipment maintenance areas, and laboratory environments. The two application categories share the same fundamental principle — establishing a conductive pathway between a person or object and an earth potential reference — but differ significantly in their construction specifications and performance requirements.
ESD control grounding mats are manufactured from two or three-layer rubber or vinyl composite construction: a conductive top surface layer with surface resistivity between 10⁶ and 10⁹ ohms per square, a static dissipative middle layer, and an insulating bottom layer preventing direct low-resistance contact with the work surface. A grounding snap connector on the mat surface accepts a coiled grounding cord terminated in a 1 megohm resistor wrist strap connector or a direct earth bonding plug, directing electrostatic charge from handled components safely to ground potential. Mat dimensions range from 300mm x 600mm for individual workstation use to 600mm x 1200mm for full bench coverage, with thickness between 2mm and 4mm.
Personal earthing or grounding mats for wellness applications are constructed from carbon-infused synthetic fabric or conductive silver-threaded textile, connected via a snap-terminated wire to the earthing pin of a standard electrical outlet or a dedicated ground rod. Surface resistivity on these mats is kept low — typically below 1 ohm — to maximize electron transfer between the body and the earth reference.
Industrial grounding mats for high-voltage equipment maintenance and substation work use heavy-duty rubber insulating mat construction rated to IEC 61111 voltage class specifications, providing insulation rather than conduction to protect personnel from step and touch voltage hazards.
In Pakistan, ESD control grounding mats are used in electronics manufacturing and repair workshops, telecommunications equipment rooms, and IT hardware service centers, while industrial insulating mats protect electricians at power utility installations and switchgear maintenance sites.
Tactical Supply Pakistan supplies earthing and grounding mats across ESD control, personal wellness, and industrial insulation categories for technical and safety procurement across Pakistan.
