Drone Magnetometers are lightweight magnetic field sensing instruments specifically engineered for integration onto unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) platforms, enabling airborne measurement of geomagnetic field variations across survey areas without the cost and logistical complexity of manned aircraft operations. Mounted beneath the drone fuselage or on extended boom arms to minimize interference from the platform’s own magnetic signature, these sensors continuously record total field intensity or vector component data as the UAV traverses pre-programmed flight lines.

Sensor technologies used in drone magnetometers include fluxgate magnetometers, cesium vapor sensors, potassium vapor sensors, and optically pumped magnetometers (OPM). Fluxgate units are the most common entry-level option, offering sensitivity in the range of 0.1 to 1 nanotesla (nT) at sampling rates up to 1,000Hz, suitable for geological mapping and ferrous object detection. Cesium and potassium vapor magnetometers achieve sensitivities below 0.001 nT per root hertz, making them the preferred choice for high-resolution mineral exploration and unexploded ordnance (UXO) surveys where subtle magnetic anomalies must be resolved against background field variations.

The sensor package typically weighs between 150g and 800g depending on sensor type and included electronics, with accompanying data logging units recording magnetic field readings georeferenced against simultaneous GPS and IMU outputs at sampling rates synchronized to flight speed and line spacing requirements. Compensation algorithms embedded in the processing firmware reduce magnetic interference generated by the UAV’s motors, ESCs, and battery packs — a critical correction step for maintaining data quality in close-proximity drone-mounted configurations.

Output data formats include ASCII, CSV, and industry-standard geophysical formats compatible with processing software such as Geosoft Oasis Montaj and Encom PA.

In Pakistan, drone magnetometers support mineral exploration across Balochistan and KPK, pipeline and buried infrastructure surveys, UXO clearance operations, and archaeological site prospection.

Tactical Supply Pakistan supplies drone magnetometers and compatible UAV survey systems for geological, defense, and field survey applications nationwide.
