Complete Target Retrieval Systems are motorized or manually operated mechanisms installed at shooting ranges to transport paper, cardboard, or reactive targets downrange to a set distance and return them to the firing line for inspection or replacement without requiring personnel to enter the range floor. These systems eliminate the need to cease fire and send staff downrange during active training sessions, improving both range safety and the pace of live-fire exercises.

The system consists of a target carrier — a metal or reinforced plastic frame holding the target backer and face — suspended from an overhead track or mounted on a floor rail running the length of the range lane. Electric motor-driven carrier systems use a cable and pulley arrangement or direct-drive belt mechanism to transport the carrier forward and back at controlled speeds, typically between 0.2 and 1.5 meters per second. Lane lengths accommodated by standard systems range from 5 meters for indoor pistol ranges up to 50 meters for rifle training facilities.

Control panels at the firing point allow shooters or range officers to set target distance, program automated advance and retrieve cycles, and adjust carrier speed. Digital distance indicators confirm carrier position in meters on the control panel display. Multi-lane installations connect individual lane controllers to a central range management console, allowing simultaneous control of all lanes from a single operator position.

Track materials are constructed from anodized aluminum or galvanized steel, rated for indoor and covered outdoor installation. Motor units are enclosed in sealed housings to prevent brass, powder residue, and dust ingestion during sustained range operation.
