Bomb Truck/Explosive Containment Vessel

A bomb truck or explosive containment vessel is a vehicle-mounted or trailer-based heavy protective enclosure specifically designed to transport suspected explosive devices safely or contain explosive detonation when in-place neutralisation is operationally required. The mobile containment approach enables transportation of explosive threats from densely-populated urban centres to remote detonation sites while maintaining blast containment protecting accompanying personnel and surrounding infrastructure.

The containment vessel typically employs 40–80mm steel plate construction distributed across multiple walls and floor, providing ballistic fragmentation protection against particle velocities exceeding 2,000 metres per second. Vehicle integration places the containment cavity centrally within the truck chassis, with additional structural reinforcement distributing blast loads through the vehicle frame preventing catastrophic structural failure. Typical internal volumes span 1.5–3 cubic metres accommodating hand-portable explosives through substantial vehicle-mounted devices.

Rapid-access door mechanisms employ sliding or hinged designs with quick-release latches enabling safe device insertion and removal. Internal lighting and closed-circuit video systems enable visual inspection of loaded devices before transport without requiring operator proximity.

Blast vent systems with baffles prevent uncontrolled overpressure escape during detonation while limiting secondary fragmentation hazards. Multiple vent ports distributed around the vessel geometry distribute blast effects across broader area reducing peak pressure loading.
