RF Marker Ball Locators
RF marker ball locators detect passive marker balls buried alongside pipes, cables, and conduits during installation. These balls don’t need batteries. They hold a small resonant circuit tuned to a specific frequency, and the locator activates that circuit from above ground to get a response. Buried depth ranges from 30cm to 1.8 metres, depending on soil type and marker size. Detection range typically reaches 1.5 to 3 metres, enough to locate a ball without digging along the entire pipe run first.
Marker balls come in different frequencies, often color-coded, so one locator can distinguish between water lines, gas lines, sewer pipes, and telecom conduits buried in the same area. Locators read this out on screen, usually a numeric depth reading paired with a signal strength bar.
