These systems allow operators to collect evidence, handle suspicious items, or recover equipment without exposing themselves to explosive hazards, biological contamination, or structural dangers at the retrieval location.
Remote retrieval technologies span mechanical grappling systems using cable winches and hook mechanisms, robotic arms with gripping end effectors controlled through teleoperated interfaces, and extended reach tools including grabbing hooks and basket systems mounted on poles or drones. Selection depends on the object weight, fragility, contamination risk, and accessibility constraints at the retrieval site. Heavy object recovery requires winch systems rated for multi-ton loads.
