Known-Distance Target Carriage

A known-distance target carriage is a mechanical or motorized system that positions, moves, and presents shooting targets at defined, fixed distances on a firearms training range. It gives range operators and instructors precise control over target placement and exposure during live-fire exercises, qualification courses, and tactical training scenarios without requiring range personnel to enter the firing lane to reset or reposition targets manually between strings of fire.

Manual known-distance carriages use a track-mounted frame that slides along a rail or cable system running the length of the range lane. Operators position the target frame at a measured distance marked on the track and lock it in place before the firing string begins. Motorized carriages use electric drive systems controlled from the firing line or a range management console, allowing operators to move the target to any distance along the track during or between firing sequences.
