Graphene-Based Flexible Magnetic Tactile Sensor
A graphene-based flexible magnetic tactile sensor is an advanced sensing device that combines the electrical properties of graphene with magnetic field responsiveness to detect and measure contact forces, pressure distributions, and surface deformation across a flexible substrate. The sensor structure incorporates graphene or graphene composite layers deposited on a pliable polymer base such as PDMS or polyimide, with embedded magnetic microparticles or ferromagnetic elements that alter the graphene layer’s electrical resistance or capacitance in response to applied mechanical force and magnetic field interaction. This combination allows the sensor to detect both tactile pressure and magnetic field variations simultaneously within the same sensing element.
Graphene’s exceptionally high carrier mobility, mechanical flexibility, and sensitivity to strain make it well suited for tactile sensing applications requiring conformable form factors that rigid silicon-based sensors cannot achieve. Sensor arrays built on flexible graphene substrates can conform to curved surfaces including robotic finger geometries, prosthetic limb structures, and wearable monitoring platforms while maintaining spatial pressure resolution in the range of 1mm to 5mm per sensing node. Pressure detection ranges across research and development variants span from sub-Pascal levels for gentle contact detection up to several hundred kilopascals for high-force industrial gripping applications.
