GPR Unit

A GPR unit is a self-contained ground-penetrating radar instrument that integrates the transmitter, receiver, control electronics, data acquisition system, and display into a single portable or cart-mounted device for conducting subsurface investigations in the field. Modern GPR units eliminate the need for separate control boxes and laptop connections by incorporating onboard processing hardware and a ruggedized touchscreen display that renders the subsurface radargram in real time as the operator moves the antenna across the survey surface. This integration reduces setup time, equipment weight, and the number of components that need to be transported and managed during field operations.

Control interfaces on current GPR units include touchscreen panels, physical button arrays, and menu-driven operating systems that allow the operator to adjust time window depth, antenna frequency selection on multi-frequency models, gain settings, and scan trigger mode between distance-based and time-based acquisition. Internal storage capacities range from 32GB to 128GB on professional models, supporting thousands of individual scan files with associated GPS coordinate data where external GNSS receivers are connected. Battery systems are rechargeable lithium-ion packs rated for 4 to 8 hours of continuous scanning per charge depending on the unit and operating frequency.
