IV Armboard
The IV Armboard consists of a flat malleable aluminum core encased in foam padding, available in five size variants ranging from 67 x 26 millimeters for pediatric applications to 260 x 90 millimeters for adult forearm immobilization. The aluminum substrate measures 1.5 millimeters thick, providing sufficient rigidity to prevent joint flexion while remaining bendable to conform to arm contours during initial placement. Closed-cell foam padding covers both surfaces in 5-millimeter thickness, creating cushioned contact that distributes pressure across the immobilization area and prevents skin breakdown during extended wear periods.
The open design lacks enclosing straps along the edges, allowing healthcare providers unobstructed visual access to catheter insertion sites for infiltration monitoring and dressing changes without splint removal. Securing occurs through external medical tape wrapped circumferentially around the armboard and limb at proximal, middle, and distal positions.
