Wire Splints
Wire splints are flexible, moldable immobilization devices used to stabilize fractures, sprains, dislocations, and soft tissue injuries of the extremities in pre-hospital trauma care, emergency medical treatment, and field medical settings. Ambulance services, military field medical units, disaster response teams, and emergency first responder programs across Pakistan use wire splints to immobilize injured limbs rapidly without the weight, drying time, and preparation requirements of traditional plaster of Paris casting.
The splint construction uses a central aluminum wire core surrounded by foam padding and a cotton or synthetic outer covering. The wire core bends and holds its shape when the clinician molds it around the injured limb contour. Foam padding cushions the metal core against the patient’s skin surface. The outer fabric layer protects the foam and provides a surface for bandage wrap fixation after molding. Splint lengths cover finger splints from 15cm through full arm and leg splints up to 90cm. Width options run from 3.5cm for finger and toe immobilization up to 15cm for forearm and lower leg applications. Additionally, pre-shaped variants come with anatomical angles built into the wire core. These reduce molding time for standard fracture presentations without custom bending at the emergency scene.
Application requires no water, mixing, or drying time. The clinician removes the splint from packaging and molds it directly to the injured limb. Cohesive or crepe bandage secures the splint after molding. Total application time runs under 3 minutes for a trained responder. Furthermore, radiolucent construction allows X-ray imaging through the applied splint without removal. This avoids unnecessary patient movement during radiological fracture assessment in emergency department settings.
Single-use sterile packaging maintains hygiene for emergency kit inclusion. Shelf life runs between 5 and 10 years under dry storage conditions. Moreover, total splint weight runs between 50 and 200 grams depending on length and width. This keeps wire splints practical for ambulance trauma bags, military medic backpacks, and field first aid kits across Pakistan’s emergency medical services.
Tactical Supply Pakistan supplies wire splints to ambulance services, military field medical units, hospital emergency departments, and disaster response medical teams requiring lightweight, rapid-application limb immobilization capability across pre-hospital and emergency trauma care environments throughout Pakistan.
