Water Pressure Reducing Valves
Water pressure reducing valves control and limit the downstream water pressure in supply pipelines, distribution networks, and building plumbing systems to a set target value regardless of fluctuations in the upstream supply pressure. When downstream pressure drops below the set point, the diaphragm opens to allow greater flow. This self-regulating action maintains downstream pressure within a narrow band around the set value. Additionally, adjustment screws on the valve bonnet allow field technicians to change the set point pressure within the valve’s adjustment range without removing the valve from the pipeline.
Pressure reducing valves suit inlet pressures between 4 and 16 bar on standard municipal and industrial models. Outlet set point adjustment ranges run between 1 and 6 bar on common building services variants. Flow capacity runs from small 15mm nominal bore valves for domestic service connections up to 300mm bore valves for trunk main pressure management. Furthermore, pilot-operated pressure reducing valves use a small pilot valve to control the main valve actuator, providing more precise pressure regulation across wide flow rate variations than direct-acting spring diaphragm designs at larger pipe sizes.
Body materials include bronze for potable water and smaller pipe sizes. Ductile iron and stainless steel suit larger diameter and industrial process applications. Moreover, strainer screens on the valve inlet protect the internal diaphragm and seat from particle damage.
