Videoscopes are flexible or semi-rigid optical inspection instruments that transmit live video from a miniature camera at the insertion tube tip to an external display — allowing operators to inspect internal cavities, pipelines, engines, welds, and structural spaces without disassembly, excavation, or direct line-of-sight access to the inspection point.

The insertion tube carries the camera, LED light source, and articulation mechanism from the handset to the inspection area. Tube diameters range from 2.4mm on micro-videoscopes for small-bore access to 8.5mm on heavy-duty industrial models. Tube lengths extend from 1 meter for benchtop component inspection to 30 meters for pipeline and duct surveys. Four-way articulating tip mechanisms steer the camera head up, down, left, and right — navigating bends, branches, and internal obstacles at articulation angles up to 180 degrees in all four directions. Furthermore, IP67-rated waterproof camera heads allow inspection inside flooded pipes, heat exchangers, and submerged structures without additional protection.

Image sensors range from 640×480 pixels on entry-level units to 3.9MP on professional systems such as the Olympus IPLEX NX. LED ring illuminators at the camera tip provide consistent lighting inside dark cavities with brightness adjustable from the handset. 3D stereo measurement capability on high-specification models calculates defect depth, length, and area directly on screen from two offset camera perspectives — without removing the probe from the inspection cavity. Additionally, operating temperatures on industrial tube assemblies cover -10°C to +130°C — allowing inspection of hot gas paths in turbines and industrial boilers without cooling down the equipment first.

Monitor units display live footage on 5-inch to 8-inch touchscreen displays with onboard DVR recording to removable SD cards. Wi-Fi output streams live video to secondary tablets on site. Moreover, joystick-controlled articulation and one-hand operation designs reduce operator fatigue during extended inspection sessions inside complex equipment.
