The Adaptive Recognition VIDAR speed camera combines optical speed measurement, license plate recognition, and vehicle make and model identification in a single roadside camera unit — delivering multi-function traffic enforcement from one installation without separate radar speed guns, ANPR cameras, and overview cameras at each enforcement point.
Optical speed measurement on the VIDAR uses the known distance between two calibrated measurement lines in the camera’s field of view and the vehicle’s travel time between them — calculating speed from time-of-flight across the measurement zone rather than radar Doppler shift. This approach measures the speed of each individual vehicle in a multi-lane traffic stream independently. Furthermore, the built-in laser trigger and optional 4D multi-lane radar provide precise vehicle detection and speed triggering — flagging vehicles exceeding the programmed speed threshold for immediate capture and data transmission without requiring a separate roadside radar unit.
The Carmen ANPR engine running onboard delivers 99.7% plate recognition accuracy on captured speed violation images. Every violation record includes plate number, vehicle nationality, make, model, color, measured speed, posted speed limit, timestamp, GPS location, and direction of travel — providing a legally complete enforcement record from a single device. Dual motorized optics self-adjust focus and zoom based on onboard gyroscope and laser telemetry — maintaining sharp plate captures at the calibrated enforcement distance without manual recalibration after installation. Additionally, global shutter sensors freeze vehicle images at speeds up to 320 km/h without motion blur — covering the full speed range from urban zone enforcement to motorway high-speed violation capture.
850nm infrared illumination handles both reflective and non-reflective plates in complete darkness, rain, fog, and direct headlight glare. Integration interfaces include ONVIF, HTTP, and FTP for connection to traffic management centers, enforcement processing systems, and fine generation platforms. IP67 and IK10 housing ratings protect against weather and physical impact at exposed roadside positions. Operating temperature covers -40°C to +60°C across Pakistan’s full climate range.
