UV fluorescence photography uses 365nm excitation illumination with a barrier filter on the camera lens blocking reflected UV while passing longer wavelength fluorescent emission from latent fingerprints, biological stains, and document security features. This technique reveals evidence invisible under white light without contact or chemical treatment of the evidence surface. Furthermore, NIR reflectance imaging at 850nm and 940nm penetrates surface inks and coatings on questioned documents, revealing obliterated writing, ink substitutions, and altered entries where underlying content differs in infrared reflectance from the overlying surface modification.
Tethered operation connects the camera to a forensic workstation through USB or Ethernet. Dedicated forensic imaging software controls capture parameters and stores images with chain-of-custody metadata for each examination session.
