Soldier-Mounted Counter-UAS System
Soldier-mounted counter-UAS systems give individual infantry personnel the ability to detect, track, and defeat hostile unmanned aerial vehicles at the squad and platoon level without requiring a dedicated vehicle-mounted or fixed installation counter-drone platform. Pakistan Army infantry units, special operations formations, and law enforcement tactical teams use these man-portable systems to protect dismounted personnel from drone reconnaissance, payload-dropping threats, and kamikaze UAS attacks during patrol, checkpoint, and urban operations.
The system integrates a detection module, a defeat module, and a fire control interface into a wearable or weapon-mountable configuration. The detection module uses an RF spectrum sensor covering 433 MHz through 5.8 GHz to identify drone control link and video downlink transmissions within a 1 to 3 kilometer radius. Some variants add a passive acoustic sensor array to detect multi-rotor drone rotor noise signatures at ranges up to 500 meters. Detection alerts transmit to the soldier’s wrist display or earpiece unit within seconds of signal identification. Additionally, directional antenna elements on the detection module indicate the bearing of the detected drone, allowing the soldier to orient toward the threat before activating the defeat system.
The defeat module uses a directional RF jamming transmitter covering drone control frequencies and GPS navigation bands. Output power runs between 5W and 20W depending on the model. Effective jamming range extends between 300 meters and 1500 meters against standard commercial drone platforms. Activating the jammer forces most commercial drones into return-to-home or hover-and-land mode, neutralizing the threat without kinetic engagement. Furthermore, laser dazzler defeat options on some variants use a high-power laser to blind optical sensors on the drone airframe at ranges up to 500 meters, disrupting electro-optical payload operation without RF jamming signatures that reveal the operator’s position.
Total system weight including detection unit, defeat module, battery pack, and wearable harness runs between 3 and 6 kilograms. Battery runtime supports between 4 and 8 hours of continuous monitoring per charge. Moreover, modular architecture allows the soldier to configure detection-only mode for silent monitoring or activate the defeat module only when engagement authorization is received from the unit commander.
