SENSYS Top Side Unit
The Sensys Top Side Unit sits above ground as the receiver and communication hub for a network of in-pavement magnetometer sensors detecting vehicles below the road surface. The unit mounts on a pole, signal cabinet, or nearby structure, picking up wireless data transmitted from embedded sensors and passing it along to a traffic controller or central monitoring system. Communication with buried sensors happens over a dedicated wireless link, avoiding the cost and disruption of running physical cable to each sensor point in the road.
Housing material is usually weather-rated polymer or aluminum, protecting internal electronics from rain, dust, and temperature extremes during outdoor mounting. Power comes from a standard traffic cabinet supply or a solar panel setup for locations without easy grid access. The unit processes data from multiple sensors at once, typically covering an intersection or a stretch of roadway with several lanes, then outputs vehicle count, speed, and presence data to a traffic management system through standard interfaces like RS-485 or Ethernet.
