Security Antennas

Security antennas extend the range and reliability of radio, RFID, and wireless surveillance systems used across a site. Most models fall into two types: directional antennas, which focus signal strength toward one area, and omnidirectional antennas, which spread coverage evenly in all directions. Frequency support varies by use case, covering common bands like 400-470MHz for two-way radios, 900MHz-2.4GHz for RFID and sensor networks, and 5GHz for wireless camera links. Gain ratings typically range from 3dBi on compact omnidirectional models up to 15dBi or higher on long-range directional units.

Housing material is usually fiberglass or UV-stabilized plastic, protecting internal elements from sun exposure and rain over years of outdoor mounting. Connector types include N-type, SMA, or TNC, chosen based on the radio or receiver equipment the antenna pairs with. Cable runs between antenna and equipment use low-loss coaxial cable, since signal strength drops over distance, especially at higher frequencies. Mounting hardware includes pole clamps, wall brackets, and mast kits, letting installers position the antenna at height for maximum line-of-sight coverage.

Some antennas add lightning protection built into the base, grounding a strike before it reaches connected equipment inside a building. Weatherproof connector seals keep moisture out at the cable junction, a common failure point on outdoor installations left unsealed.

Perimeter security systems use directional antennas to extend radio coverage along long fence lines without dead zones. Access control networks use RFID antennas to read tags from vehicles or personnel at greater distances than a built-in reader antenna allows. Surveillance camera networks also use wireless link antennas to connect remote cameras back to a central recording system without running cable across a large site.
