RTX
The RTX series covers laser rangefinders and optic sights built for field use in low light and long-range conditions. The rangefinder sends out an infrared laser pulse and measures the time it takes to bounce back from a target. This gives a distance reading in under 1 second. Range coverage typically spans 10 metres up to 1,800-2,000 metres on reflective targets, with shorter effective range on non-reflective surfaces like brush or fabric. Accuracy holds within 1 metre at most working distances.
The housing is usually rubber-armored aluminum or polymer, rated IP54 or higher for rain and dust resistance during outdoor use. Magnification on rangefinder-scope combo units ranges from 6x to 10x, with an internal display showing distance, angle, and sometimes windage correction directly in the eyepiece. Battery life runs several thousand readings on a single CR2 or CR123 cell, common formats that are easy to source and replace in the field.
Some models add angle compensation, adjusting the displayed range for uphill or downhill shots where straight-line distance differs from the horizontal range that matters for a hit. A single-button interface keeps operation simple, letting the user take a reading without scrolling through menus mid-task.
Hunters use RTX rangefinders to judge shot distance across open or hilly terrain before taking a shot. Security and surveillance teams use them to confirm distances to a perimeter fence line or observation point during patrol planning.
