Rescue Robots

Rescue robots are remotely operated or autonomous robotic platforms designed to access collapsed structures, hazardous environments, and confined spaces where human rescuers cannot safely enter, equipped with sensors and manipulators enabling search for survivors, structural assessment, and evidence collection during disaster response and emergency operations. These systems extend rescuer capability beyond human physical and sensory limitations, allowing rapid area assessment and survivor location before personnel deployment into potentially unstable structures.

Mobility platforms include tracked designs for terrain adaptation across rubble and uneven surfaces, wheeled configurations for smoother urban environments, and legged designs for climbing obstacles and navigating complex rubble patterns. Sensor packages typically include visible light cameras for visual navigation and victim identification, thermal imaging for detecting heat signatures from buried survivors, gas detectors measuring oxygen depletion and toxic gas accumulation, and microphones capturing survivor audio signals including calls for help. Communication links operate through tethered cables providing unlimited power and uninterrupted control, or wireless RF or cellular data for remote operation at extended distances. Real-time video transmission to ground control stations enables operator decision-making without requiring on-site presence. Autonomous navigation modes allow the robot to execute pre-programmed search patterns or follow mapped routes through known hazard zones.
