Radiation Survey Meters
Radiation survey meters measure ambient ionizing radiation dose rates and accumulated dose. They give radiation protection officers, nuclear facility workers, CBRN teams, and emergency responders quantitative data on radiation levels. Furthermore, they serve routine area monitoring, contamination surveys, and emergency incident response across nuclear, medical, and military applications.
Geiger-Müller (GM) tube detectors are the most widely deployed survey meter technology. They respond to beta and gamma radiation. Dose rate ranges cover 0.01 µSv/h background levels to 10 Sv/h on high-range emergency models. Furthermore, NaI(Tl) scintillation probes extend gamma detection sensitivity below GM tube threshold levels. Digital survey meters display dose rate and accumulated dose simultaneously. Backlit LCD displays show readings with audible and vibrating alerts. Dose rate ranges auto-select as radiation levels change. As a result, manual range switching during emergency response is unnecessary. Moreover, waterproof housings rated to IP65 or IP67 protect instruments during decontamination and outdoor deployment. Data logging with USB or Bluetooth connectivity transfers survey records to PC-based radiation monitoring software.
