Pressure Testing
Pressure testing is a non-destructive evaluation method that verifies the structural integrity and fluid containment capability of pressure vessels, pipelines, plumbing systems, HVAC ducts, and sealed equipment by subjecting them to elevated pressure and monitoring for leakage, rupture, or structural distress during the test period. These tests confirm that systems can safely contain pressurized fluids or gases at specified operating pressures without component failure or unacceptable leakage.
Hydrostatic pressure testing uses water or other incompressible liquid pressurized to the test specification, held for a defined duration while visual inspection identifies leakage or structural deformation. This method is conservative since liquid incompressibility prevents rapid pressure release if failure occurs. Pneumatic pressure testing uses compressed gas at lower pressures than hydrostatic equivalents, suitable for systems where water introduction would contaminate contents or cause unacceptable corrosion. Acoustic emission monitoring detects stress wave activity from micro-crack propagation, providing earlier warning of structural failure compared to visual inspection alone.
Pressure decay testing monitors system pressure stability over time, identifying slow leaks not visible through visual inspection. Helium leak detection uses mass spectrometry to detect helium gas escaping through micro-defects, achieving sensitivity to leaks as small as 10⁻¹² mbar·liters per second on ultra-high-vacuum systems. Test acceptance criteria specify acceptable pressure loss rates, maximum allowable leakage, and absence of visible distress during the test period.
In Pakistan, pressure testing supports pipeline safety certification on water distribution and petroleum networks, pressure vessel inspection in industrial facilities, HVAC system verification before building occupancy, and military equipment qualification ensuring weapon and propulsion system integrity before operational deployment across defense and infrastructure sectors.
Tactical Supply Pakistan supplies pressure testing equipment and consultation services for infrastructure, industrial, and military applications across Pakistan.
