Pressure & Leak Testing
Pressure and leak testing encompasses the methods, equipment, and procedures used to verify the structural integrity and fluid containment capability of pressure vessels, pipelines, plumbing systems, HVAC ducts, and sealed enclosures before operational deployment or after modification and repair work. These tests confirm that systems can safely contain pressurized fluids or gases without leakage, rupture, or component failure under specified operating pressures and environmental conditions.
Hydrostatic pressure testing uses incompressible liquid, typically water, pressurized to the test pressure specification and held for a defined duration while the system is visually inspected and monitored for leakage or structural distress. This method is conservative for pressure vessel certification since the incompressibility of the liquid prevents rapid pressure release if failure occurs. Pneumatic pressure testing uses compressed gas at lower pressures than hydrostatic equivalents, suitable for systems where water introduction would contaminate contents or where the system cannot tolerate water exposure. Helium leak detection measures helium gas escape through micro-defects using a mass spectrometer detector, achieving sensitivity to leak rates as low as 10⁻¹² mbar·liters per second on ultra-high-vacuum systems.
Visual inspection during pressure testing identifies cracks, seam separation, and corrosion-induced thinning. Acoustic emission monitoring detects stress wave activity from micro-crack propagation, providing earlier warning of structural failure compared to visual inspection alone. Pressure decay testing monitors system pressure stability over time, identifying slow leaks not visible through visual inspection.
In Pakistan, pressure and leak testing supports pipeline safety certification on water distribution and petroleum transmission networks, pressure vessel inspection in industrial facilities, HVAC system verification before commissioning, and military equipment qualification ensuring weapon and propulsion system containment integrity before field deployment.
Tactical Supply Pakistan supplies pressure and leak testing equipment and consultation for infrastructure, industrial, and military applications across Pakistan.
