Pediatric Kendrick Extrication Device
The Pediatric Kendrick Extrication Device is a lightweight, semi-rigid immobilization vest designed specifically for extracting children from vehicle accident scenes while maintaining spinal alignment from the head through the pelvis during the removal process. Standard adult extrication devices do not scale down proportionally to pediatric body dimensions, leaving gaps in lateral torso support and head immobilization that create movement risk during extraction. The pediatric-specific design addresses these dimensional gaps directly.
The vest body uses a laminated construction combining a semi-rigid polyethylene or fiberglass insert panel with padded foam lining on the patient contact surface, covered in a durable nylon or polyester outer shell. Overall device dimensions accommodate children ranging from approximately 10 to 40 kilograms body weight, with adjustable chest and groin strap configurations adapting the fit across this weight range without requiring multiple device sizes in the emergency response kit. Additionally, color-coded strap systems use distinct colors for chest, groin, and head flap straps, allowing rescuers to identify and sequence strap application correctly under stress and low-light conditions at accident scenes.
The integrated head flap folds up from the upper vest panel to support and immobilize the child’s head on both lateral sides, with hook-and-loop closure strips securing the flap position once aligned. Furthermore, four to six lifting handles positioned around the vest perimeter allow multiple rescuers to extract the immobilized child from a vehicle cabin as a single coordinated lift without twisting or lateral bending of the spinal column during the move.
Strap hardware uses pediatric-rated plastic buckles with metal reinforcement at load-bearing connection points, rated to support full device and patient weight during vertical and angled extraction lifts. Moreover, total device weight runs between 1.5 and 2.5 kilograms, keeping the kit light enough for inclusion in standard emergency response vehicle loadouts.
Tactical Supply Pakistan supplies Pediatric Kendrick Extrication Devices to ambulance services, fire and rescue formations, and emergency medical response teams requiring purpose-built pediatric spinal immobilization capability for vehicle accident response across Pakistan.
