Passport document readers are optical scanning devices that capture and decode data from machine-readable travel documents including passports, national identity cards, visas, and residence permits at border control, hotel check-in, and identity verification points. These devices extract biographical data, document number, nationality, date of birth, and expiry information from the machine-readable zone printed at the bottom of the document photo page, eliminating manual data entry errors and reducing processing time per document significantly compared to visual inspection alone.

Furthermore, chip reading capability on models equipped with RFID readers accesses the electronic chip embedded in e-passports, comparing stored biometric data and digital signature against the visually scanned document to detect chip cloning and document substitution attempts.

Data output connects to border management, hotel property management, and identity verification software through USB, RS-232, or Ethernet interfaces with SDK support for custom integration. Moreover, scan speed runs between 1 and 3 seconds per document, supporting high-throughput processing at busy border crossing points and airline check-in counters across Pakistan.
