Oxy Acetylene Welding System
An Oxy-Acetylene Welding System uses a mixture of pure oxygen and acetylene gas combusted at the torch tip to produce a high-temperature flame reaching approximately 3,500°C, enabling welding, cutting, brazing, and heating of ferrous and non-ferrous metals across fabrication, maintenance, and repair applications. Furthermore, separate pressure regulators on each cylinder reduce high storage pressure to the lower working pressures required at the torch, typically 0.1 to 0.5 bar for acetylene and 0.2 to 1.0 bar for oxygen depending on the tip size and application. Consequently, regulator selection and pressure setting directly affect flame character and heat output for different welding and cutting tasks.
Torch tip selection determines the application, with welding tips producing a concentrated flame for fusion welding of metal joints, cutting attachments incorporating a central oxygen blast jet that oxidizes and ejects molten metal to cut through steel plate, and heating tips producing a broader flame for stress-relieving, bending, and pre-heating operations. Additionally, braze welding tips apply lower heat suitable for joining dissimilar metals and bronze or brass filler rod deposition without fully melting the base material.
Flame character adjusts through oxygen-to-acetylene ratio control at the torch valves, producing neutral, carburizing, or oxidizing flame conditions suited to different base metals and filler materials.
Safety equipment including flashback arrestors, check valves, and pressure relief devices protect against backfire and flashback events that can cause torch damage or cylinder rupture during system operation.
