Optical detectors convert incident light into measurable electrical signals. They form the sensing element in scientific instruments, defense systems, and communications infrastructure. Furthermore, they detect, quantify, and characterize light across UV, visible, and infrared wavelengths.

Photodiode detectors use a reverse-biased p-n junction. They generate photocurrent proportional to incident light intensity. Silicon photodiodes cover spectral response from 190nm to 1,100nm. They serve scintillation detector readout in radiation monitors, Raman spectroscopy, and fluorescence microscopy. Additionally, CCD and CMOS array detectors capture spatially resolved light across millions of pixels simultaneously. Pyroelectric and thermopile detectors measure infrared power through thermal absorption. They cover mid-wave and long-wave infrared wavelengths that silicon photodiodes cannot reach. Moreover, these suit CO2 laser power measurement, NDIR gas sensor detection, and passive infrared motion sensing applications.
