Patch Repair System
Patch repair systems fix localized defects in underground pipelines without excavating the surrounding soil or road surface. These systems address cracks, holes, joint separations, and small breaks by inserting a repair patch directly through an access point into the existing pipe.
The repair process begins with a CCTV camera inspection to locate and measure the exact defect. Operators then select a patch sized with adequate overlap to fully cover the damaged section. The patch material consists of a felt or fiberglass liner saturated with epoxy or polyester resin. Furthermore, this resin cures into a rigid, watertight seal once positioned correctly inside the pipe.
A packer device inflates the patch against the pipe wall at the precise defect location. This holds the patch firmly in place while the resin cures. UV-cured patch systems use ultraviolet light sources to trigger curing within minutes rather than the hours required by ambient-cure systems. Additionally, this significantly reduces total repair time and returns the pipeline to service faster.
Robotic cutting and milling tools clear obstructions and remove root intrusion before patch installation. This ensures proper bonding between the patch and existing pipe wall. Pipe diameter compatibility ranges from 100mm to 600mm on standard equipment, covering residential service laterals through medium-diameter sewer mains. Moreover, patch lengths typically span 300mm to 1,500mm, addressing localized defects without requiring full pipe relining.
These systems work in both gravity-fed sewer lines and pressurized water mains. Resin formulations are selected to match the specific application and operating pressure requirements.
