Laser Weapon System

Laser weapon systems combine a high-energy laser source, precision tracking and beam control optics, adaptive atmospheric compensation, thermal management infrastructure, and a command and control interface into a single integrated combat platform — delivering directed energy defeat capability against aerial and ground threats without the per-shot cost, magazine limitations, or logistical burden of conventional kinetic weapon systems.

The laser source architecture determines engagement capability. Fiber laser weapon systems use ytterbium-doped fiber gain media to generate near-diffraction-limited output at power levels from 10kW on compact vehicle-mounted counter-drone platforms to 150kW and above on fixed installation anti-missile configurations. Spectral beam combination stacks multiple fiber laser modules at slightly offset wavelengths into a single high-power output beam — scaling total power by adding modules without modifying the optical delivery train.

Beam control systems maintain lethal irradiance on maneuvering targets through two mechanisms. Fast-steering mirrors correct high-frequency pointing errors from platform vibration and target motion at bandwidths exceeding 1kHz. Adaptive optics with wavefront sensors and deformable mirrors measure and correct atmospheric turbulence distortion in real time — preserving diffraction-limited focal spot size at ranges where uncorrected turbulence would spread the beam below lethal thresholds.
