Lance Holder

A lance holder is the operator-held handle assembly in a thermal lance cutting system, serving as the interface between the oxygen supply hose and the consumable steel lance rod during cutting operations. It grips the rear end of the lance rod, channels high-pressure oxygen flow from the connected supply hose through to the lance tip, and provides the operator with a secure, insulated handle for directing the burning lance onto the target material. The lance holder is the reusable component of the thermal lance system, outlasting multiple consumable lance rods across a cutting session.

The holder body consists of a collet or chuck-type gripping mechanism that clamps around the lance rod’s rear end, a machined brass or steel oxygen inlet fitting that connects to the supply hose via a threaded or quick-connect coupling, and an internal oxygen passageway running through the holder body to the lance rod interface. A control valve or trigger mechanism on the holder body allows the operator to open and close oxygen flow without disconnecting the hose, controlling ignition timing and oxygen supply during the cut. Handle materials include insulated rubber or heat-resistant composite grips that protect the operator’s hands from radiated heat during extended cutting operations.

Lance rod diameter compatibility varies by holder model, with standard holders accepting lance rod diameters from 8mm to 19mm depending on the cutting application. Larger diameter lance rods deliver higher oxygen flow and greater cutting energy for thick reinforced concrete and heavy steel, while smaller diameter rods suit more precise cutting work on thinner sections.
