The Kendrick Extrication Device (KED) is a semi-rigid spinal immobilization vest used to stabilize the cervical and thoracic spine of a seated trauma patient before extraction from a vehicle, confined space, or any situation where the patient must be moved from a seated to a supine position without compromising spinal alignment. It immobilizes the head, neck, and torso as a single unit, preventing flexion, extension, rotation, and lateral movement of the spine during the extrication process.

The KED consists of a slatted wooden or fiberglass-reinforced panel back insert housed within a padded nylon or canvas vest body. Three color-coded torso straps secure the device around the patient’s chest and abdomen in a defined application sequence. Two leg straps wrap around the upper thighs to anchor the lower portion of the device and prevent upward migration during lifting. A padded head flap folds forward over the forehead and secures with hook-and-loop straps, and lateral head blocks provide rigid lateral support to prevent head rotation during movement. Foam padding fills gaps between the rigid panels and the patient’s body to eliminate movement within the device.

In Pakistan, the KED is used by ambulance crews, rescue teams, military medics, and traffic accident first responders managing vehicle extrication scenarios on motorways, mountain roads, and urban accident sites where moving a potentially spine-injured patient without adequate immobilization risks permanent neurological injury.

Tactical Supply Pakistan supplies Kendrick Extrication Devices for ambulance services, military medical units, rescue teams, and trauma response organizations across Pakistan.
