IDPA Cardboard Target
The IDPA cardboard target is the official shooting target of the International Defensive Pistol Association — used in all IDPA sanctioned competition matches and defensive pistol training programs worldwide. These targets present a humanoid silhouette profile that replicates real-world threat engagement scenarios, making them directly applicable to law enforcement firearms training, security force qualification, and practical shooting competition.
Official IDPA targets measure 23 inches wide by 35 inches tall — the standard dimensions specified by IDPA for all sanctioned competition use. Material construction uses 200 lb. test corrugated cardboard with vertical C-flute construction, giving the target enough rigidity to stand on a backer without buckling under wind or repeated impacts. Both front and back surfaces are tan cardboard in color. Scoring zone lines are perforated through the full cardboard thickness for easy, accurate scoring without measuring instruments — a critical feature during timed IDPA stage scoring where speed of target assessment directly affects match flow.
The target body carries three scoring zones. The down-zero center chest zone scores highest. Concentric outer zones score down-one and down-three penalties respectively. A separate head zone with a zero circle at the top of the target accommodates head shot scoring in IDPA scenarios requiring failure-to-stop engagement sequences.
These targets suit police service pistol qualification, security company firearms training programs, practical shooting club competitions, and individual marksmanship development at commercial and private shooting ranges.
