Inspection Videoscope

Inspection videoscopes are flexible or semi-rigid optical instruments that insert a camera-tipped probe into confined, inaccessible, or hazardous spaces — transmitting live video to an external monitor for real-time internal visual assessment. These tools allow technicians and inspectors to examine engine bores, turbine blades, pipe interiors, welds, structural cavities, and mechanical assemblies without disassembly, excavation, or shutdown of the system under inspection.

The insertion tube carries the camera, light source, and articulation mechanism from the handset to the inspection point. Tube diameters range from 2.4mm on micro-videoscopes for small-bore inspections up to 8.5mm on heavy-duty industrial models. Lengths extend from 1 meter for benchtop component inspection to 30 meters for pipeline and duct surveys. Four-way articulating tip mechanisms allow operators to steer the camera head up, down, left, and right — navigating bends, branches, and internal obstacles inside the inspection cavity. Articulation angles on professional units reach 180 degrees in all four directions from the tip.

Image sensors across current models range from standard definition CMOS at 640×480 pixels on entry-level units to 1.3MP and 3.9MP sensors on professional inspection systems such as the Olympus IPLEX NX. Furthermore, some high-specification models add 3D stereo measurement capability — calculating defect depth, length, and area directly on screen from two slightly offset camera perspectives without removing the probe. LED ring lights at the camera tip provide consistent illumination inside dark cavities, with brightness adjustable from the handset.
