Improvised Explosive Device (IED) Containment Vessel

An IED containment vessel is a hardened enclosure designed to contain the blast, fragmentation, and pressure effects of an improvised explosive device detonation within its walls, protecting surrounding personnel and infrastructure from lethal overpressure and projectile hazards. EOD teams, military units, or to contain a device that cannot be safely rendered safe in place within the available time or operational conditions.

Containment vessels use layered wall construction combining high-strength steel outer shells, ballistic-grade composite or ceramic intermediate layers, and energy-absorbing foam or rubber inner linings. This construction absorbs and redirects detonation energy inward, preventing wall penetration by fragmentation and attenuating the shock wave transmitted through the vessel structure.
