High Speed IR Temperature Sensor
A High Speed Infrared Temperature Sensor measures surface temperature without physical contact. It detects infrared radiation from a target and converts it into a temperature reading in milliseconds. These sensors suit fast-moving objects, rapid thermal events, and high-cycle industrial processes where temperature changes occur within fractions of a second.
The sensing element varies by application. Thermopile detectors cover temperature ranges from -50°C to +1,000°C with response times of 10 to 150 milliseconds. Photodetector types — InGaAs, PbS, or MCT — achieve response times from 1 millisecond down to 1 microsecond. These suit explosive testing, laser pulse monitoring, and rotating component measurement. Spectral bands include 8 to 14 micrometers for ambient-temperature targets and 3.9 micrometers for combustion gas monitoring with CO₂ interference rejection.
The lens assembly defines spot size at a given working distance. Distance-to-spot ratios range from 2:1 for wide-area sensing to 300:1 for small targets at extended distances. Output options include 4 to 20mA analog, 0 to 10V analog, RS-232, RS-485, USB, and Ethernet interfaces. These connect directly to PLCs, data loggers, and oscilloscopes for fast transient capture.
Steel rolling mills use these sensors to monitor product temperature during processing. Cement kiln operators track shell temperatures in real time. Electronics manufacturers monitor reflow soldering lines for quality control.
