Foam Proportioning Systems
Foam Proportioning Systems are the hydraulic, mechanical, or electronic infrastructure components within a foam fire suppression installation responsible for metering foam concentrate into the water supply stream at a defined ratio — typically 1 percent, 3 percent, or 6 percent by volume — to produce a consistent foam solution suitable for discharge through nozzles, monitors, or fixed suppression heads. The proportioning system determines solution concentration accuracy across varying flow demands, making it one of the most performance-critical elements of any foam-based fire protection installation.
System configurations are selected based on installation size, flow rate range, concentrate type, and the required proportioning accuracy tolerance. Inline inductor systems use a venturi throat within the water flow path to create a pressure differential that draws concentrate from an adjacent storage vessel through a calibrated metering orifice, providing a simple, pump-independent proportioning solution for fixed flow rate applications. Balanced pressure proportioning systems use a concentrate pump and pressure regulating valve to maintain foam concentrate supply pressure equal to the water supply pressure at the proportioning point, enabling accurate injection across a wide flow range with proportioning accuracy within ±10 percent of nominal ratio as required by EN 13565 and NFPA 11 standards.
Bladder tank systems store foam concentrate within a flexible elastomeric bladder inside a steel pressure vessel connected in parallel with the water supply. As water enters the tank under system pressure, it displaces the bladder, forcing concentrate into the water line through a metering orifice without requiring a separate concentrate pump. This configuration eliminates electrical power dependency for concentrate injection, providing a passive, reliable proportioning solution for installations requiring operational continuity during power disruptions.
Electronic variable-rate proportioning systems use flowmeters, concentrate control valves, and programmable logic controllers (PLCs) to measure water flow in real time and adjust concentrate injection rate dynamically, maintaining target solution concentration within ±3 percent across the full system flow range.
In Pakistan, foam proportioning systems are installed at airport ARFF facilities, petroleum refineries, LPG storage terminals, offshore platform fire protection networks, and industrial chemical processing plants requiring certified foam solution delivery for flammable liquid fire suppression.
Tactical Supply Pakistan supplies foam proportioning systems across inductor, balanced pressure, bladder tank, and electronic configurations for industrial fire protection and ARFF procurement across Pakistan.
