EchoRange Advanced Sonar Systems are underwater acoustic detection and ranging platforms that use emitted sound waves and their reflected returns to detect, locate, classify, and track objects, structures, and marine organisms beneath the water surface. Deployed on surface vessels, autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), fixed seabed installations, and towed array systems, EchoRange sonar platforms provide high-resolution acoustic imaging and target detection capability across a range of operational depths and coverage geometries.

The system operates on transducer arrays that convert electrical drive signals into acoustic pulses across operating frequencies selected for the target detection range and resolution requirements. Lower frequencies — typically 3.5kHz to 30kHz — provide long-range detection at reduced resolution, suitable for deep-water obstacle avoidance, submarine detection, and water column survey applications. Higher frequencies — 200kHz to 900kHz — produce fine spatial resolution for seabed mapping, mine countermeasure surveys, underwater infrastructure inspection, and short-range target classification at depths up to several hundred meters.

Multi-beam sonar configurations on EchoRange systems fan up to 512 simultaneous acoustic beams across a swath width of 120 to 160 degrees perpendicular to the vessel track, producing dense point cloud data from the insonified seabed or water column. Swath coverage width at 100 meters water depth reaches 200 to 300 meters per pass on mid-frequency systems, enabling efficient area survey completion without multiple overlapping passes. Side-scan sonar variants produce high-resolution acoustic shadow imagery of seabed features and bottom contacts for target identification and seabed classification.

Integrated GPS and motion reference unit (MRU) data compensate for vessel pitch, roll, and heave during data collection, maintaining geometric accuracy in the processed acoustic dataset across sea states up to Sea State 4 on surface vessel deployments.
