Dueling Target Tree

A Dueling Target Tree is a reactive steel shooting target system designed for head-to-head competitive marksmanship training and recreational shooting, consisting of a central vertical post with multiple hinged or pivoting steel paddle targets arranged symmetrically on either side — typically five paddles per side — positioned at progressive heights along the arms extending from the central column. When a shooter hits a paddle on their side of the tree, it pivots or drops, and the objective is to clear all paddles on one side before the opposing shooter clears theirs, creating a timed competitive format between two shooters engaging simultaneously.

The target paddles are cut from AR500 or AR550 hardened steel plate — typically 3/16 inch to 3/8 inch thick depending on the intended caliber range — providing impact resistance against pistol calibers from 9mm to .45 ACP and enabling repeated use without deformation at the safe engagement distances specified for each plate thickness. Paddle dimensions are typically 4 inches to 6 inches in diameter or width, mounted on pivot arms that reset automatically by gravity after each hit, allowing the next engagement without manual resetting of struck paddles.

The central post is constructed from 2-inch to 3-inch square or round steel tube, with a ground stake or base plate mounting option for stable installation in both indoor range bays and outdoor shooting positions. Total system height positions the uppermost paddles at approximately 1.5 meters above ground, with the lowest paddles at approximately 0.5 meters, covering a realistic engagement height range for standing pistol shooting.

Surface treatment on all steel components uses powder coating or zinc primer to resist surface oxidation between range sessions, with touch-up paint available for high-impact paddle face areas.
