DIY Thermic Lance Kit
A DIY thermic lance kit is a collection of materials and instructions enabling construction of improvised thermic (thermite) lances for high-temperature cutting of steel structures during emergency rescue or demolition operations. The DIY approach enables field construction when commercial thermic lances are unavailable supporting rapid rescue operations.
Thermic lance construction employs iron powder mixed with aluminium powder and oxidiser creating exothermic reaction generating temperatures exceeding 2,000°C enabling steel cutting. DIY kits typically include pre-measured chemical components requiring simple mixing and ignition. Steel tube container confines thermite mixture directing heat toward target steel.
Operational deployment includes structural steel cutting during building collapse rescue enabling personnel extraction from debris, vehicle cutting during accident extrication, and demolition applications enabling controlled structure removal.
