Compressed Air Booster

A Compressed Air Booster is a mechanical device that takes compressed air or gas from a low-pressure source and increases it to a higher working pressure required by downstream equipment or storage cylinders. Unlike a primary compressor that draws atmospheric air, a booster operates on pre-compressed inlet gas — typically between 5 bar and 200 bar — and amplifies it to output pressures ranging from 200 bar up to 450 bar or higher depending on the application and booster configuration.

The core mechanism in most compressed air boosters is a reciprocating piston arrangement driven either pneumatically — using the inlet gas pressure itself as the driving medium — or electrically via a motor-driven crankshaft. Pneumatically driven boosters operate without electrical power requirements, making them suitable for remote locations and hazardous environments where electric motors present ignition risks. Compression ratios between inlet and outlet pressure vary by model, with single-stage boosters handling moderate amplification and two-stage configurations achieving higher final pressures with improved thermal efficiency.

Key specifications include inlet pressure range, outlet pressure rating, flow rate in liters per minute (LPM) or standard cubic feet per minute (SCFM), and duty cycle — the percentage of operating time the unit can sustain continuous compression before requiring a cooling interval. Outlet connections follow standard high-pressure fittings including DIN 200 bar, DIN 300 bar, and G5/8 thread specifications compatible with SCBA cylinders, paintball HPA tanks, and industrial high-pressure lines.

Safety features include pressure relief valves, automatic shutoff at target fill pressure, and moisture separator filters to prevent water vapor carryover into storage cylinders.
