Ballistic panels are modular protective sheets constructed from hardened steel, ceramic composite, or advanced polymeric materials engineered to absorb and deflect rifle projectiles and fragmentation across defined threat levels aligned with NIJ or STANAG specifications. Unlike rigid armour blocks, ballistic panels offer flexibility in mounting orientation and can be integrated into soft-sided structures, textile carriers, or temporary fortifications, enabling rapid deployment without heavy mechanical installation equipment.

Panel construction typically employs AR500 hardened steel ranging from 3mm to 8mm thickness for lightweight variants, or multi-layer ceramic composite laminates combining boron carbide or silicon carbide tiles bonded to aramid or polyethylene backing matrices. Steel panels maintain consistent performance across multiple impact cycles, while ceramic composites achieve superior weight efficiency at the cost of single-hit degradation — ceramic tiles shatter or delaminate upon projectile impact and require replacement.

Typical panel dimensions span from portable sizes of 200mm × 300mm suitable for personal body armour integration, to large architectural panels of 1,200mm × 2,400mm for vehicle side skirts or fortified structure cladding. Weight ranges from 2kg for lightweight ceramic panels to 20kg for heavy-duty steel configurations, with thickness between 15mm and 50mm depending on material composition and threat specification.

Mounting systems employ quick-disconnect brackets, adhesive backing, or mechanical fasteners allowing panel repositioning or replacement without tools within minutes. Modular arrangement enables custom protection geometry matching specific threat vectors or operational requirements.
