4x4 Armoured Vehicle
A 4×4 armoured vehicle is a four-wheel-drive platform built to transport personnel or equipment through high-threat environments while providing ballistic and blast protection to occupants. The core distinction from a standard 4×4 lies in the vehicle’s protection package — armour-grade steel plating, ballistic glass rated to STANAG or NIJ standards, and reinforced door and floor structures designed to absorb and deflect projectile and IED blast energy.
Typical factory or aftermarket armoured 4×4 builds use hardox or dual-hardness steel at thicknesses between 6mm and 12mm for body panels, combined with multi-laminate ballistic glass achieving B4 to B7 protection levels depending on threat assessment. Suspension and chassis components are uprated to handle the additional weight — armoured variants commonly add 800kg to 2,000kg over the base vehicle’s kerb weight — requiring heavy-duty coil springs, upgraded shock absorbers, and run-flat tyre inserts rated for continued mobility after tyre damage.
Internal fitouts vary by mission role and may include intercom systems, emergency lighting, fire suppression, and weapon port provisions. External configurations can include bull bars, underbody blast plates, and antenna mounts for communication equipment.
In Pakistan, armoured 4×4 vehicles are operationally relevant for VIP protection details, law enforcement rapid response units, military liaison transport, and private security operations in areas with elevated threat levels.
Tactical Supply Pakistan provides information and procurement support for armoured 4×4 platforms and associated protection upgrade components suited to local operational requirements.
