GammAware
The GammAware add-on transforms gamma-ray imagers into mobile 3D radiation mapping platforms using Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) technology. System-ready in under 90 seconds, it enables users to walk through an area and generate a 3D model overlayed with isotope-specific radiation hotspots. It supports full 3D motion and dwell measurements, capturing both dose rates and isotope identities in real time.
This add-on is compatible with H‑Series (such as H100, H400, H420) and M‑Series (M100, M400) detectors. The hardware comes in two form factors: the larger H‑version (15″×8″×17″, ~20 lb) and the M‑version (19.9″×7.3″×8.4″, ~12.7 lb), both ruggedized to IP67. Batteries are hot-swappable, offering 1.5 hours of continuous mapping on the H‑version and 3 hours on the M‑version.
Operators can rapidly scan large indoor zones with user-friendly control via Ethernet or Wi-Fi, visualizing real-time hotspot locations on a paired tablet. GammAware’s software quantifies source strength, generates contamination maps, and supports ALARA dose estimations and shielding evaluations. It also integrates with external 3D point clouds, enabling clean alignment with existing site models.
The GammAware system includes a robust post-processing suite that allows virtual walkthroughs of the scanned space. Users can isolate surfaces, volumes, or open-air zones to map dose distributions, assess radioactive waste containers, or analyze contamination spread. Optional GPS functionality extends its capabilities to large outdoor mapping; meanwhile, coded-aperture imaging is available on the M‑version.
Can this add-on detect specific isotopes while moving?
Yes. It preserves the full spectroscopic and isotope ID capabilities of the underlying H3D detector, enabling real-time identification of isotopes as you map, without pausing or stopping.
